Man, I love it when I stumble upon excellent Canadian artists. My country’s apparently filled with amazing talent that is generally undiscovered. Alberta, for instance, houses Cold Craving.
I’m trying to find the proper term to describe this band’s music, but I can’t quite pick one. I guess the closest one would be post-hardcore, although it doesn’t exactly feel fitting to what these guys are doing. The band blends solid guitar melodies with passionate and loud vocals to form their own little variation on your everyday progressive band.
The band released their debut record “Beacons” earlier this year, and it’s certainly something that needs acquiring for all of you post-fans. The opening track, “Faithless”, was an instant favourite of mine from the very first listen. A great, intense buildup, bleeding into strong, high vocals backed with lower yells made this song into a 6-minute marvel. “Ambulance”, another track from this awesome record, is the first track on their MySpace player and was also an instant love of mine. In fact, it’s that song that propelled me into the itunes store and forced me to buy the record. I just couldn’t get enough!
Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any videos of this band performing on YouTube, so I’ll have to leave you without a taste of their live value, but you should check out their aforementioned MySpace page, or their Facebook page, or their official website and see if you like these guys as much as I do.
I hope these guys decide to tour to Montreal. It’d be easy to fit them into a lineup here, there’s good stuff of this genre appearing here all the time.
